Four Reasons Any Job Is Better Than No Job

Posted on July 16, 2015 by Daniel at 12:30 am

Some people often wonder why certain people stay in certain types of jobs for many years. Once upon a time there was an idea that minimum wage jobs were meant to be transitional, maybe for high school or college students.

However, overs the years it’s been seen that there are people that stick to their minimum wage jobs for a lifetime sometimes, no matter how little their income has come up over the years. There are many reasons they stay, including job security and the inability to find another job.

There are also many arguments that stem from the discussion of minimum wage, like why it’s always so low and whether raising it really helps people or not. That all doesn’t really matter for the sake of this article, but it is interested to read about.

Instead of wondering why they keep a job that seems less than satisfactory to others, you should be looking at why having a job in general is better than not having one at all.

You Have Some Money

For those people that do work for a living, there is at least some money available. You can pay your bills and feed your family. You may still struggle, but you can at least feel like you accomplish something more than people that don’t have an income.

However, it does seem like the more money a person has coming in the more they also have going out. So it seems as though it’s simply a lose-lose situation. But is it not better to have some hours of your day filled up with something to do rather than be miserable because you have no money?

You Have A Security Net

Having a job builds up your ability to apply for social security in the future, including disability, in case something were to happen to you and you were no longer able to work. People that don’t work aren’t building up this security net and could find themselves broke and destitute if they were to never be able to work another day in their lives.

You may also have medical benefits through your job, even if it’s only part time work. Medical benefits make it easier to afford being sick, getting dental work done, and even keeping glasses on your face.

You Are Working Toward The Future

When you have a job you can easily start looking for another. You don’t have to fill in your possible future employer with all the sad and annoying reasons that you have been out of work for months or why you are always hopping from one job to the next.

It’s likely that sticking with your current job while searching for better employment will also allow you a good reference from your current job. They’ll understand that you want more hours, higher pay, or a job closer to home.

You Simply Aren’t Unemployed

Lastly, it’s better to have income coming in rather than being unemployed. There are two types of unemployment. There is the time where you just don’t have a job and you don’t have any prospects, and your future employment is grim.

Then there is the unemployment where you are actually able to collect unemployment wages as your work towards finding another job so that you can get back on your feet again.

If you have the ability, get out there and get a job, if you don’t have one. You don’t have to work full time, and you can even be picky about where you’ll work. In the long run, a job is better than no job at all!
