It’s All About the Money, Honey!

Posted on December 19, 2013 by Daniel at 9:07 am

These days it’s not about who wears the trousers in the household, but who looks after the purse strings.  Traditionally it always used to be the man about the house, but now it can be either the male, female or even both!  I remember as a child that my mum always looked after everything to do with finance.  My father was so disinterested he would come home from work, give my mum his wage-packet full of cash and think no more about it.  But who looks after the money now?

Of course, money has also become a much more complex issue.  Not many of us receive our hard-earned wages via cash anymore.  It usually goes directly into the bank, so again we get used to dealing with ‘virtual’ money.  And of course, before we can get our eager little hands on it, most of it has flown out of the same bank account via a series of direct debits and standing orders.  The days where one would dutifully pay each bill by making a trip to the post officehas become virtually extinct. The same goes for visiting your bank or building society in person. E-commerce and sophisticated technology has made it all very easy for us, albeit more complicated.  There are even clever bank accounts now that manage your money for you, allocating funds for bills into one section of the account so that you can only access your ‘spare’ funds.  Now how clever is that!

But what happens if we hit a sticky patch and find ourselves running out of money with an urgent expense rearing its ugly head?  Imagine that you are a family with children and the younger members of the family are moving up to secondary school come September.  This big event brings with it lots of expense.  You know how it goes.  New uniform, shoes, school bag, coat, lunch box, pencil case – shall I go on?  The end result is a large cash outlay, but what if you don’t have that money before D-Day i.e. Back To School Day?  Thankfully there are websites out there that can help.  Take a look at Wonga.com and you will find short terms loans easy to come by.  No matter which of you is the ‘money man’ in the household, you should find the website easy enough to understand.  If you are not particularly internet savvy, get your nearest and dearest, or your teenage members of the family unit to help.  Complete the simple process and before you know it, you will have that essential little bundle of much needed cash winging its way to your bank account.

Now of course you have to decide who will do the ‘school shopping’? Mum, dad or all of you?  Maybe you hate the thought of traipsing around the shops looking at item after item.  Many of us fall into that category.  Well how about thinking out of the box?  You got the cash online so why not continue the process and do all of your shopping online?  Curl up with the computer, a cup of coffee, your kiddies shopping list and off you go!
