The Best Job Markets in the United States Right Now

Posted on July 5, 2017 by Daniel at 12:55 pm

It’s a good time to be a job-seeker in the United States. The unemployment rate is the lowest it’s been in a decade at 4.4 percent, and it’s safe to say the economy has bounced back from the recession of the late 2000’s. That means there are more jobs, and better jobs, available. In some places, the job market is better than others. These are the best job markets in the United States right now:

Raleigh, NC

The capital of North Carolina, located in the heart of this Southern state, might not be where you’d expect to find tons of technology jobs. But thanks to the nearby Research Triangle Park, a sprawling research park that employs 50,000 experts in various fields, Raleigh is home to one of the best job markets in the United States.

In addition to the thousands of tech jobs in Raleigh, there are also plenty of jobs in the public sector. Wake County, where Raleigh is located, also has over 20,000 workers employed by the state of North Carolina. An additional 19,000 employees work for the Wake County school system.

Highly skilled private sector jobs, along with plenty of opportunities in the public sector, make Raleigh, NC one of the best job markets right now. Job seekers looking to move to the Raleigh area can find jobs on Triangle Jobs, a local job site dedicated to the area.

Austin, TX

Austin has been known as a hip place for millennials for years now. This young and trendy reputation might be helping the job market, too. There are tons of technology jobs in Austin. Among the top industries in Austin are creative and digital media technology, clean energy and power technology, and data management.

In a recent study conducted by finance website NerdWallet, Austin, Texas was named the best city for job seekers in 2017. NerdWallet analyzed the nation’s 100 largest cities and named Austin number one. Austin earned the number one spot thanks to its low unemployment rate, high median income, and low cost of living. So, not only are there plenty of jobs in Austin, those jobs pay well.

For young people looking for a cool place to live and work, Austin, TX is a good choice. Those looking for jobs in Austin can check out Austin Jobs, where there are tons of job openings posted for the Austin, TX area.

New York, NY

Unlike Raleigh or Austin, New York isn’t known for having a big technology sector. In fact, finding any job in New York City is notoriously difficult. But there are signs that the job market in New York is bouncing back from the Great Recession stronger than ever.

While in most of the country, wages have been slow to rise, in New York City, wages in 2015 were rising at a rate more than twice as fast as the national average. New York City also has one of the nation’s highest minimum wage requirements. While the minimum wage for the state of New York is $9.70, in New York City the minimum wage is $11. Additionally, laws have already been enacted that will raise the minimum wage every year until it reaches $15 in 2019.

Aside from rising wages, New York City is also a great place for entrepreneurs looking to get started. Finance website Bankrate named it the best place to launch a career. Bankrate cited the city’s plethora of opportunities for advancement in its review. New York has always had a reputation as a place where people can pursue their dreams, and that remains true even in hard economic times.

As the economy continues to improve, increasing wages and potential for career growth should continue to make New York City one of the best job markets in the United States. New Yorkers across the state (or those looking to move to the Big Apple) can find work on New York Jobs, which lists jobs in every industry around New York.

Miami, FL

Florida is no longer just for retirees and spring breakers. Miami, Florida is one of the top job markets in the nation. Both CNBC and finance site WalletHub named Miami one of their best places to find a job in 2017. With high median wages and above-average job growth, there are plenty of good jobs in Miami.

As one might expect, tourism makes up a good portion of the jobs available. However, Miami has seen growth in the technology sector, too. Entertainment and trade are also big in Miami.

What really draws people to move to Miami is often the quality of life.

Miami was also ranked by CNBC as having extremely good work-life balance, with plenty of opportunities for advancement at work.

Between the beautiful beaches and robust job market, it’s easy to see why people are flocking to Miami. Those looking to find a job in Miami will find listings on the Miami Herald’s job site.
