Choosing a course in college is not about indulging yourself, but preparing for your future. You might be an expert shopper at Curry’s, but there is not a lot of demand for personal shoppers. Your education entails a significant investment, so you want to make sure that you can make it back when you graduate, especially if you have a student loan to pay off. Here are the top four courses that pay a decent wage.

Accounting

Getting a degree in bean counting can earn you quite a lot of beans right out of college. Entry-level positions for accountants average £42,404. Employment opportunities are also diverse, from management trainee to actuaries. It is the ultimate numbers game.

Civil engineering

The environment and infrastructure are the hottest things in the UK now, and civil engineering graduates are right on the top of the list of desirable applicants. Entry-level positions pay an average of £44,851. Demand is especially high because of the many construction projects going on, including the HS2 and skyscrapers in London.

IT

Of course, a degree in information technology can really start you off on the fast track to financial success. Entry-level positions typically start at £30,240, but that can quickly rise to an average of £64,878 if you have good credentials and choose your company wisely.

Business management

This is a catchall course. All companies need some type of business management, no matter in what industry it is. Graduates with a business degree can expect to start at £44,764, and work their way up to CEO or managing director for an average salary of £143,356. They can also parlay their degree in sales and marketing if they are more into that. It can pay a decent amount of change, if you are good at what you do. Average salaries range from £24,080 to £104,636.

It’s always recommended that you focus on the pay grade you want to establish while choosing your college major. See if you can blend together passion with a great paycheck.
