3 Tips for Getting Fit Without Spending A Lot Of Money

Posted on June 15, 2017 by Daniel at 1:22 pm

With all the hype around the fitness industry, it’s easier than ever for people to use the excuse of not having enough money as to why they can’t or don’t take their health seriously. However, anyone who’s ever gone from being unhealthy to leading a healthier life will tell you that there are plenty of ways to do it while still spending little to no money. If you’re still not convinced, here are three tips for getting fit without spending a lot of money.

Making the Most Of A Gym Membership

If you’re truly trying to save money, paying for a gym membership may not be the best move for you. Many of the things you do in a gym can be done without a gym and only require a little more work or dedication. But if you do decide that going to the gym is what you need, you should do your best to make the most of your membership. If you can’t seem to do that, DaveRamsey.com recommends finding an outdoor track to use, running stairs, or simply walking around your own neighborhood. All of these things are free and will get you the added health benefit of getting some vitamin D.

Create A Small Home Gym

Working out outside isn’t for everyone. Many people want to do their exercises in the comfort and security of their own home, which can work out just as well as going to a gym if you have the right tools. Luckily, creating your own home gym doesn’t have to be hugely expensive. Zane Hadzick, a contributor to BodyBuilding.com, shares that if you’re just starting your own home gym, the best first items to get are kettlebells, resistance bands, and a few barbells. Just these few simple pieces will make your home workouts much more effective and help you get fitter at an accelerated pace.

Consider Your Food

A huge part of being healthy and getting fit has to do with the food you eat. You can’t expect to workout everyday while eating the same old unhealthy food and suddenly become this super fit person. You’ve got to take your food intake seriously, which often requires giving up some foods or meal options that you used to love. Stew Smith, a contributor to Military.com, shares that a lot of people who eat unhealthy food also spend more money on food than those who pick healthier options. Processed food, whether bought at the grocery store or from a fast-food or restaurant chain, are often more expensive and less healthy than food you can make yourself. So the next time you’re thinking about eating healthy, consider getting some fresh, whole foods from the grocery store and cooking them yourself at home. This will prove to be both healthier and much less expensive in the long run.

If you’re looking for ways to get healthy while staying within your budget, use the tips mentioned above to help you do just that.
